StitchSitter was not a product at first. It was a fix for one four-needle machine that kept asking for a memory stick.

What we do know is what the machine taught us. The first version worked on the bench. Then it hid a design on the real machine, and the reason took a while to accept. The file was called 1_20.jef, and the name was in lower case. Eight characters, a dot, three more. The panel skipped it in silence. Not an error. Just absence.
That is the whole problem in one line. These machines do not argue with you. They just do not show you the thing you asked for. You are left to work out which of a dozen invisible rules you broke. Every machine we have added since means writing those rules down, so nobody else finds them the way we did.
Forty-eight of the sixty-three machines we have catalogued have no wireless and never will. They sew as well as the day they were bought. Replacing one to gain a network connection is a poor trade, and we would rather sell you a small part than a large machine.
Twenty-nine machines on our list have no folder rule recorded, because the research we worked from did not state one. We left those blank. A confident wrong answer about somebody's own machine is worse than an honest gap, and it is harder to undo.
We have run StitchSitter ourselves on a Janome MB-4, an MB-4S and an Elna eXpressive 940. Every other machine is on our list because we know what it requires. Not because we have met it. We say it that way everywhere, including where it costs us a sale.
If the app cannot draw your file, it says so, and it tells you which of two reasons applies. It never quietly shows you something that is not your design. We found that one the hard way. Our own previews of one format came out upside down for months. We caught it only because the same artwork in another format disagreed.
If your machine is on the list and something is wrong, we want to hear about it more than we want the sale. That is not a slogan. The machine list lives on the dongle rather than inside the firmware, so a correction reaches you without waiting for a release.
